Florence Adepoju is a beauty game changer in every sense of the word. Six years ago, Florence, started MDM Flow, a beauty brand that caters for women of colour. Frustrated by a lack of representation within the beauty industry, Florence embarked on a journey to create diverse yet affordable makeup for women in the United Kingdom. Initially starting off with a lipstick range, she has now ventured into foundations. Her beauty brand is far from a monolithic shade of brown but is a true representation of the different shades of melanin that make up the black woman. Since launching MDM Flow, she has been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, the Daily Mail and the Standard among a host of many prestigious media organisations. MDM Flow is currently stocked in stores cross the UK such as: Harvey Nichols, Nasty Gal and Boots to name a few. In this episode we touch on:
- Why black women pay a premium for being black;
- How being of Nigerian heritage has infused Florence’s journey so far;
- Diversity in the beauty industry;
- The importance of being confident and passionate as a woman in the industry, among other topics.
